I really need to bring my GPA up?

I'm going into high school as a junior on September 2nd, and my final report card from sophmore year, I had a 2.2 or 2.3 GPA. Which is horrible, and I want to get into a decent college to become an English teacher once I graduate from high school, preferably one in Boston (MA).

I know that the only way to get your GPA up in class is to do well, so I need tips of any kind. Best answer will be chosen for me. Study tips, tips to stay on top of the game all year, etc.?

  1. You will need a 3.0 or a B grade point average to get into a decent college. To bring your 2.2 or a C grade point average to a 3.0 or a B you will need to get 4 As and 1B to obtain a grade point average of 3.02 or a B grade point average. This is if you were taking five courses. The first thing you should do is to see your high school counselor.

  2. I am in high school too so I know what it's like.  If you can, try taking advanced classes that are worth more points,  but don't take them if you don't think you can handle it.  Do the same with your electives.  I know at my school some electives give you 5 points for an A while others give you only 4.

As far as study tips here are some of the things I do:

If I know a really hard test is coming up, I start reviewing in advance instead of cramming.  Also I always do any reviews the teachers give me and try to ask them for the answers to any questions I don't know (only ask them the ones you really can't find so it's not like you're trying to steal all the answers from them).  I am also really big into flashcards and color coding things.  It helps me visualize and remember the info.  Good luck!

  3. if you can bring your gpa to 3.0 then you should be good

and heres a hint: focus more classes that you struggle in

and practice SAT/ACT because thats also a huge factor

and if you have electives classes, dont slack off because those count too

study tips: study every day because cramming the night before is a bad idea

  4. study, study, study!

keep organized notes, and study those the night before and the morning of tests and quizzes. also, always get plenty of sleep and eat a good breakfast before you take a test or quiz.

always turn in you homework! even if it's not all the way done, turn it in for partial credit, or see if you can finish it and turn it in the next day. you may get a few points off, but at least you'll get some points.

take advantage of extra credit! if your teachers give you a chance for extra credit, take it! the points could mean the difference between a C+ and a B-.

if you fail an assignment or test/quiz, always talk to your teacher and see if you can revise it to gain points back, or take a different quiz to get a higher score.

always pay attention in class, and try. ask questions and take notes. if the teachers see you're trying, they'll be more likely to help you when you need it.

always work hard on projects, as they hurt your grade more if you fail.

consider taking a study hall to do homework in, or getting a tutor to help if you feel you're starting to fall behind.

some teachers will stay after and do study sessions for students who want to go over the material. take advantage of that, if a teacher offers.

ask to stay after school and get a little help from the teeachers.

if you feel overwhelmed by the wrok load, talk to your teachers. most will be understanding, and give you help and/or and extension on the due date.

    good luck!

  5. Well yes the only way to get your gpa up is to do better in school and here are some tips:

--when you are studying make flashcards write a question on the front and the answer on the back. Then, the ones that you get right you can put in one pile and the ones that you get wrong put in a different pile. The ones that were wrong do them over again until you memorized them and are confident in yourself.

--what I do to stay on top of everything is I made a list of tests, quizzes and projects taped to the back of my planner now if you do not have a planner buy a little notebook or staple some pieces of computer paper and write the days you have a test, quiz, or project on and cross it out or check it off when the date passed. For example, History test on Sept. 18th Chapter 1. When you come home from school and finished your homework take a look at your list and study for the things from the closest date to the farthest date.

--When you are studying start studying about 3 to 7 days in advance depending if its one of your best subjects or worst. Studying early has a lot of privileges because if you don't understand something the next day you can just go into class and ask your teacher. Then take a note of what the teacher said.

--Last tip that I want to give you is take a LOT of notes especially on things that teachers say this is important because that means it could show up on a test.

    Best of luck

    Hope this helps :)

  6. Make sure that you give yourself time to study and do homework. You should make yourself a daily schedule, so that you know you have time. Use a planner and write down all of your assignments.

Try not to procrastinate, its the worst thing to do in this situation.

It helps to take really good notes and to quiz yourself before tests. Try making flashcards or even making a sample quiz for yourself a few weeks before any real test. That way, you'll remember what was important from the previous weeks.

If you need extra help, dont be afraid to ask you teacher, that's what they are there for!

Hope I helped, and good luck with your grades!

  7. You could start by setting up a time everyday for studying. Also. whenever I have a difficult subject I always do my other classes before I do the difficult one b/c that way I won't have to worry about my other homework and I'm free to work as long as I need to on the other. Also, if you're having trouble in a subject you should look for someone in your class who can help you and I'm sure your teachers would be happy to clarify anything for you if you asked!

  8. Whenever you don't want to study, think of how your goals could get altered by it. Aka, if I don't study for this big test then get a D, what are the colleges going to think about my final grade when that shows up?

You can also find some extra stuff on topics online if you look in the right places. Theres plenty of teachers all around that make up study guides or random stuff so that their students will study it. You just have to find it.

    Good luck =)
