  1. They inspect letters, they do not read them word for word.

The fact he is a "really good kid" is not going to help much when the charges are that serious.

  2. They scan the letters, they do not read word for word.  This offense is serious and his record may not matter, there are a lot of variables to look at.  His sentence will be determined by many things.  What state is this in? You can look up the states minimum and maximum sentences on the government website.

  3. Yes anything mailed to the jail for an inmate will possibly be read. Google the Department of corrections for you state or the state the the person is locked up in. They should have somewhere on the site a FAQ on sending letters/packages to inmates.

  4. Well without knowing what state this is happening in I can only advise you from what I know from where Im at. And I happen to be in California.

In most cases they do not read word for word unless they have a good reason that the inmate might be involved in some kind of activities that he would be giving orders for others to do or if they believe that he might have bad intentions somehow about the case. There are Im sure more reasons than I know about that would give cause for them to do such. And they always inspect every item of mail that comes through for anything illegal.

As far as the charges go it once again depends on where you are at. I know of places where someone gets charged with a marjuana possession to get just classes to do and in other state if your caught you can get locked up for life. So you need to see what the penal code there gives for the max and the min.

Good Luck to you and especially him.

  5. Heres an answer from an ex convict that was convicted in Oklahoma for pretty much the same exept I am non Millitary. Yes they read every single word and they have people trained in spotting code in letters .

I stabbed a man 6 times with a hunting knife in 1996 twice in the stomach twice near  the spine and twice in the head. He lived . I got 5 years  total with a prior felony aiding in the Excape of a  known wanted fugitive.I turned myself in after 24 hours in the woods running from Lincoln And Payne county Sheriffs Departments I was Out in 3 years. My charges that I was convicted on was Assault and Battery with a dangerous weapon  with Intent to kill.I was also ordered by a judge  to attend a 120 day program for anger managment inside a maximum security prison .Whenever I was transported from a facility to another I was in Handcuffs, belly chains ,a black Box ,and leg Irons inside a locked cage on the bus. All of this and I still only did 3 years on a 5 year sentence.I would have been out in 2 but I was written up twice for tattooing. Thats against the rules .I lost 180 days both times.
