hi.. okay i'm not the best player on the team, but i'm not the worst.. but whenever i make a mistake, or make a stupid play, i get so mad at myself.. and that's usually all i can think about for like 2 days.. and sometimes i get soo upset that i actually start crying.. i just beat myself up over it.

this is with every sport i play.. softball and volleyball. i don't do it with badminton.

anyways, what can i do to stop? it's not healthy for me i dont' think, and it's embarrassing to cry in front of a lot of other people, over something like that.

thanks so much for your help.. i really appreciate answers that aren't insulting!

  1. OMG I'm just like that, especially in Gym class. I play hockey and lacrosse, and whenever I let in a goal (hockey) or miss on a breakaway or something in Lacrosse, I get so angry i usually bang my stick on the glass, or bang my lacrosse stick on the ground. But then I notice, the game just goes on. No one is really focused on your mistakes, they're just urged to get the game moving on. That's what I noticed when I get really upset about a mistake I made. But when I notice people are paying attention to helping their team win the game, I get over it and get into focus again. Just look around at your players after you make a mistake. You'll notice they need your help to win, that's what you need to do. Hope this helped.

  2. Try to get your team to make everyone feel okay when they make a mistake. then when you make one. they will make you feel good.

  3. i play volleyball too and i am one of the good players starting 6 i always make mistakes i feel so bad about myself but to calm me down i put pressure on my thumbs like i push down on it for some reason all the stress goes away it works for me mybe it will work for you if that doesnt work write all your thoughts down on a peice of paper not just sports but anything wen ur done look at it read it crumple the paper and throw it away you get all thoughts and its basically taking everything you have to say without saying it

  4. this is easier said then actually done but i will say it anyway lol...you don't need to worry about making mistakes, EVER!!!! The best player in the world still make mistakes and they do it for a living or play for their country, so you don't have to worry about making a mistake because no one is perfect at anything.

I used to show too much emotion when i made a mistake setting, but i realized that no one is perfect and everyone else is making mistakes as well, also if you get upset at urself and show it openly your teammates will see it and it will bring them down, and the other team will see you are frustrated and try to pick on you.

And it is useless thinking about a mistake for a days after because no game is won or lost on a single mistake in a game, there are many so don't sweat it. I know easier said then done but it is all a part of the game.

Good luck and keep at it!!!!

  5. I use to be like that my first two years in volleyball. I changed my habits by going for long jogs just to clear my mind. Plus when you run, you don't have enough energy to continue being upset over the mistakes you did in the game.

As long as you tried your best, that's all that matters!

  6. i know what you should do!.....dude, think a lil' bit....there are so many worst people in the world than you...i guess!..but, whatever!...u must think that, if u missed that play, in the next time u gonna do that better and better.....when you miss you learn too much..missing is good to learn....so, when you miss a play, think that it is normal...and try to do it again...at the same way....if don't get it..try again...and again again again.......diiiee to win.....hahaha....that's very good for you....i play basketball...and when i play...i do it for real....i die to win a game....and knowing that i know that i can miss 'cause i'm giving my best....and if still getting upset about it...try to bye some boxe stuff you know?!....to fight at home...lol....remember, you can't get vicious with your self....try to think how to get better that play....at home...think where u missed and the next time do it again...ang do it right and well done.....that's it...

    =D....

  7. I guess I kind of know how you feel, since I play volleyball and many other sports myself. I almost cried because of a single play one time that could have lost us the whole match (we won), and my whole team got mad at me too, and my coach called a time out just to yell at me. It was AWFUL! But what I did instead of moping? I made the finally two plays of the game, and ended with a nasty ten foot line kill. My advice to you is just shake it off and make the next play even better to make up for your mistake. That's what my coaches are always telling me. Focus on each point and not the previous ones because it's already happened and you can't do anything about it. Just brush it off and move on and make a sick nasty play to win it all!
