Okay, I'm going into highschool, and I initally singed up for a Algebra 1 A class( a one year, fast class). I really really really do not want to be in it now, I'm slower. I'm scared that I won't be able to keep up with the work, and I'll be stuck in there and I'll have to take it over again. I really want to switch to Algebra 1 B(a two year) which will be more my level. Here's the thing. My uncle told me that I would get a laptop if I stayed in the class. Well **** the laptop. I don't want it anymore, I've been trying to convince my mom to let me switch, but she's 'holding out' until school starts and when it does I'll be fucked. I know that if I take the two year class then I'll have to double up, but I'm honestly willing to do that when the time comes. Please help, what do I say to my mom and my uncle?

  1. just stay in the class. its all the same thing algebra is algebra. i had algebra as a freshman and i failed only because i didnt do my homework. and i had it as a sophmore and barely passed cuz i thought i knew everything and didnt even try. just PAY ATTENTION and do your work and you'll be fine. its kinda hard but you'll get passed it. now im on my way to algebra 2 which i cant escape.

  2. Could this be jitters?  I sense that you are afraid of this one year fast class.  Perhaps you should listen to those feelings... but be honest in interpreting them.  For example, are you afraid because you'll have to work harder and not have more time with your friends?  Or are you afraid of failure?  Have you failed a math class before?  When you say you are slower, does that mean you'll need to spend hours on your homework for algebra every night?  All questions that only you can answer.  You might consider trying the Algebra 1 A class and see how you do the first week or two... if you are lost, perhaps you can drop the class and enter the Algebra 1 B class. At least this way you'll know that you tried... and who knows?  Perhaps it won't be as tough as you think.
