  1. well..... would that be fair to the cat? i guess you could keep them separated,

  2. You're dog will likely kill your cat... so the answer is no.

  3. we had the cats first and then got the dog. didn't know until the deal was made that the dog chased cats (with the intent of shaking them to death)

we kept the dog separated from the cats using a dog gate with a cat door. we sprayed him with a water bottle when he would not give up trying to get through the gate (very affective).

he was very anxious and aggressive towards them at first. as the days went by he started to acknowledge that they were always around but still wanted to chase.

finally our more curious cat started to come around him... it took about 6-8 good cat claw marks on his body before he started to understand they cat fights back. they were fine together after about 3-4 weeks.

our other cat is way more skittish. it took them about 2 months to get used to each other using the same tools (gate, spray bottle and cat claws)

anyway... sorry about the essay. the point is it depends on the dog and the cat's personalty, and how willing you are to make sure your dog learns quickly not to harm the cat.

i am not sure about this with kitten as these are 4 year old cats.

  4. Well, to answer your question, I'll tell you of my own situation.  I have two cats and I foster cats.  I also have two huskies.  I have worked it so that my two cats stay in the upstairs suite and the foster cats can be in the upstairs suite and then the cat room, also.  The Huskies are outside and in the backyard.  They only come into one room upstairs at night, when all the cats stay away from them.

I am hoping to renovate the cat room soon, so that the foster cats can always stay in the cat room and no cats will be in danger of the dogs.

If you can work something out, sure, but never put your cat in danger of a dog.

Good luck and I hope it all works out!!!

  5. Maybe you should try to get a kittens and the dogs can learn to cope with it and so will t he kitten.

  6. If your dog is a cat hater, it's better not to get a cat.  You could try to keep them separated, but it only takes a moment for a disaster to happen.  I'd say trying to keep a cat with this dog is out of the question.  If you love cats, you can spend time playing with a friend's cat, or volunteer at a shelter.

  7. How big is your dog? If a cat can take on your dog, then the dog can learn to live with it. If there is a chance that the dog can kill the cat, then don't get a cat.
