So how can i get better at swimming?

I plan to swim everday, with my father who is a triathlete.

I am going to try to see if I can attend swim team conditioning...

But how can i get better at swimming on my own?

Is their other things i can do outside of the pool to help??

I can do backstore, front crawl, and brest stoke all good, but my front crawl need a little work on speed..

how can i get speed??

Also how can i make swim team without knowing the butterfly?

And where can i learn??

  1. Try going to like the local YMCA or Fitness Club that has a swimming program. Find out if there are any instructors that would be interested in giving private stroke clinic. If not, find someone who knows the strokes that can teach them to you, and then you can practice them on your own.

  2. first off, you have to practice, just like everything else! make sure you know that is what you want to do becuase swimming is th hardest sport! most football players couldn't stay at my practice for more than 10 min.! What you can do outside the pool, is lift weights, sit ups, flutter kicks(you lay on your back and lift your feet up about 1-2 in. off the floor, and you kick 100 times, then you repeat) to get better on your own, look up things about tecnique on the internet. there  are books on the butterfly. try to learn it. go to any recreation center and you can get lessons, and it doesn't even have to be 'lessons'  you can tell them what you need to work on. you dont actually have to try out to get on the team usually. mostlywhen they ask you to try out they just need to know what group you should be in, and most swim coaches would be glad to help you learn butterfly.

  3. See if there's a swim club in your area, so you can swim and train year 'round.  Go to usaswimming.org.

  4. You can get faster at front crawl by stretching your arms out while you swim. After that you can start kicking. Then after a while you will get faster and faster and you will be super fast. Butterfly is like the same thing. but instead of one hand you use both of your arms. Bring your arms up right above the water then dive under the water. (not to deep)  and just like front crawl, glide and stay in stream line until you reach the top.

  5. To answer your questions:

    1.  You can get better at swimming by practising and observing swimmers - you can get pointers from them.

    2.  There are land exercises swimmers do to improve their skills and strength.

    3.  Don't worry about learning all strokes.  There are swimmers who are considered specialist (i.e. specialises in one or two strokes); although I would admit that you have to know the four strokes.  Butterfly requires a lot of upper body strength, effort and quite a difficult stroke to master.

    4.  Aside from getting lessons and tips from other swimmers, you can go to youtube.com or my personal favorite, www.goswim.tv.  There is a section in the website called Drill of the Week, where tips on how to improve your speed and skill as a swimmer, videos from swim techniques, proper use of swimming equipments and land exercises.  You can opt to become a member.

    Good Luck!

  6. Watch some videos, go to the gym, join a swim team you have either got or you aint, all depends on how old you are ?

  7. If you live by a YMCA try joining the swim team there. Watch videos, eat healthy, run or jog to build up endurance. Try taking lessons at a YMCA they offer lessons for all ages and all skill levels.
