  1. draft a good speech.

start by introducing yourself, stating when you joined the school and briefly what the school has helped you achieve and what your dream career is. wrap up with what you would do for the school as a captain and even when you become an adult (alumni, give someone a scholarship, donate a trophy, financial donations, etc).

get an adult to look at it and edit any thing that needs changing.

read it over and over again in front of the mirror. try avoiding stage freight may be by gazing at a family member or known party on the day. get them to encourage you.

but most importantly, just do what you can. don't get over consumed by the desire, otherwise you risk rejection and pain if you don't get it.

remember as long as you make an effort in your studies, their would always be leadership opportunities for you much later in life too. this is merely a beginning of a GREAT YOU!

i was never made a prefect in school, but today, i own my own organisation and was able to retire from active work before i turned 40.

Months ago, my son told me he hadn't got a prefect post and was downcast. A few weeks later, he found his results was one of the best in the school and he had been offered a university place at 15, much earlier than is norm.

in close, do your best and walk head high either way!

  2. Hi!! As one who has had to address many audiences, a tip on speaking to assembled people..Stand erect but not stiff, take some deep breaths, wait for 15 seconds, fix your gaze on the back row, then address some one in that row in a steady manner, do not hurry your speech. Practise in front of a full length mirror if you can.

Having confidence is the secret, that way you will do well and win approval. Good luck in your ambition.

  3. If you don't get noticed, you need to find a way to get yourself noticed. People who get the things they want usually only get it because they take whatever steps are necessary. If you're shy, you need to get over it. I know that's tough....I've been there myself, but you have to do what you have to do. I think you'll find that it's really not so bad.

I'm not sure what "school captain" is, and I can't give you a fool-proof guaranteed way to get it. All I can tell you is that if you really work hard and do *whatever it takes* (within reasonable and legal limitations, of course) ....whether you get it or not, you'll still feel good about the effort.

I'd say write yourself a really good speech. Get someone to help you if you need to, ask a teacher. Learn it. Practice speaking it to people...your friends, your family, strangers in McDonalds...just practice it in front of people as often as you can. Make sure to make eye contact with people when you deliver it, since that conveys confidence. Speak clearly and not to fast.

If you're allowed to advertize, make yourself some posters and put them around your school. I had a friend make business cards once (you can get free ones printed up at vistaprint.com) and pass them out around school.

If you want to get noticed, MAKE YOURSELF get noticed. You have to do it, because no one else is going to do it for you.

Most importantly, you have to be confident. Saying to us "I don't think I have a chance" is not going to help you. You have to BELIEVE that you are the most qualified...that you are the best candidate...that you deserve it more than anyone else. And once you've convinced yourself, you start convincing everyone else. :)

Good luck and go get it!

  4. You need to belive in yourself! have total confidence!
