  1. The Yorkshire Dales are a lovely place to visit but I can't help with accommodation, sorry.

  2. Someone asked a similar question in my local paper the other day and the reply she got was I thought quite good.   She was stuck for a place to go at short notice and someone suggested she go and visit a place she may have read about in a book either fiction (there are many I have read and wondered what the place was like )  or non fiction and you have promised yourself a visit.

There are a lot of places you may have come across and maybe closer to you than you think.  I know its not exactly answering your question but it might point you in an interesting direction.

Depending where you live there some nice areas in Yorkshire or down in Cornwall/ Devon.

  3. Read all about the Isle of Bute on the website I give, then travel there by public transport. Bus, train or flight to Glasgow, then train to Wemyss Bay and across on the ferry. A car only costs a lot on the ferry, and in Scotland there are few roads, lots of buses and subsidised fares.

You'll loveit, like stepping back 50 years and very very beautiful.

  4. the lake district?

    scottish lochs?

maybe just open a map at some random place, point and hey presto.
