all my life i wanted to play an acoustic guitar. but i know NOTHING about them, except that they comein acoustic and electric. im also a kick-@$$ guitar hero player, if that counts 4 anything. i want to play things like goo goo dolls and lifehouse, amber pacific and such. i really dont know where to start. should i buy a cheap used guitar from ebay, or should i buy an expensive one from a store?

and then i have to hire a tutor, and i have no clue how to get one!! did i mention that im a sophmore in highschool, and my parents wont give me money for guitar lessons if their lives depended on it!! i can afford the guitar, but the lessons are gonna be a huge problem!! is there any way i can get free lessons, online or something??

many kids play the guitar in my school, but im not really friends with them, so theres only a 1/100 chance that ill ask them anything. if its really urgent then ill talk to them...

so please help me get started!!!!

thanks in advance!

  1. first buy an acoustic. u can go to the store and ask what is a good one for beginners. and then take lessons from someone around where u live. and if your learning notes u can bring in sheet music. if you are learning tabs u can go to ultimate-guitar.com and print out tabs and take to your teacher.

  2. ok first of all, don't get a cheap one that's broken for $20, save up for a few months, and get one from a local pawn shop, around $100

i have been playing for 2 years, not super long, but got to a good standered

first thing to learn is notes, cause u can't get a teacher, learn from a book, i got a guitar book for dummies, and it got me a long way,

then learn the chords, not every chords, but just main ones (won't name them because u won't know what im on about)

then u will know where to go from there

    good luck :)

also once you get good join a band

  3. A good web site that gives lessons is guitartricks.com, have a look at this site. When I first started, I purchased a Behringer electric guitar for $99 from zzounds.com and it was good enough quality to get started on. You can start on something that is not too expensive, but do not buy absolute junk or it will make it really difficult for you to play.

I have been a musician most of my life. I have played piano and flute since I was in 5th grade. I taught myself guitar later. If you are a sophmore in high school and you feel like you need a tutor, get a part time job where you can make enough to pay for enough lessons to get started. At the guitar tricks web site that I mentioned above, they have videos and all kinds of learning aids and it is cheaper than actual private lessons with a tutor. You can also buy books, such as Mel Bay's guitar method. Maybe you should start out with that and if you need advice in person, maybe the people at that web site could advise you on a guitar tutor who is not so expensive.

  4. First you should buy a cheap guiatar from a store.. Then you need to study music, then get lessons. You can get lessons from any local music store, and it should'nt be to expensive.

    Hope this helps.
