  1. Contact the Dutch Embassy (check the website first http://www.netherlands-embassy.org/dutch... and ask what the requirements are for migrants.

  2. How does it cater to your type of living?  It is just like any other city.  Only problem is taxes are insanely high here and rent is even worse.  Can you deal with giving 60% of your money to the government?  Can you deal with 1700 US in rent a month?

There are no jobs here, and crime is getting worse. But goodluck

  3. On : http://www.ind.nl/EN/index.asp you can find a lot of the requirements.

They even have some sort of test you can do to see what you need:

Knowledge of the language is very useful, but for an English speaker not essential, as a lot of people speak decent enough English.

Job wise, it might be a good idea to make sure you have a job before traveling here. Maybe find an American company that has offices in The Netherlands? ( I know that there are quite a few, as i have worked for 2, and am working for a 3rd now)

Knowledge of the country is useful, so you have a bit of an idea of what 'we are about'. A good way of preparing would be a bit longer holiday, and then just cruising around the country.

If you have a job at a company, ask a colleague to show you around a bit. I am doing this for (new) colleagues, and it is fun for all of us.

What jobs are available: Currently, technical skills are pretty sought after, as are skilled workers in a lot of fields.

If you are a design engineer, technical, i could even get you in contact with people who are looking for some.

As to living in Amsterdam : I personally would not recommend the city centre - as this is very expensive. The old south (Oud-Zuid) or the northern part (Noord) are better and more financially acceptable.

What some people do is move to places within public transport reach of Amsterdam, such as Amstelveen, Zaandam, etc.

If you have more questions - don`t hesitate to ask,

Check out the websites for the legal part you will need.
