  1. try auditioning.  you can find audition schedules for broadway here: hollywood-opportunities(dotcom)

  2. Practice a t home than audition to as many as possible roles you can

  3. I plan on working in the pit on a major show someday if all works out well!! :D

I answered this exactly for my months long project last year.

I did a **** ton of research on it, so here it goes:

    1. SCHOOLING IS A MUST

Not going to school is just going to make you look that much less qualified, and most people nowadays won't even hire you without a degree. Look for schools that are arts friendly and have a musical theatre program. They are difficult to get into as a freshman though, but don't lose faith if you are turned down.

    2. TAKE ALL OPPORTUNITIES

This means, at school, in the community, with friends, anywhere. I don't care what it is, if it has anything to do with music, acting, or dancing, DO IT!!! Knowledge is good, even if its not in your specific area.

    3. SAVE

Unless you want to be in worse financial condition than those in "RENT", you need to have money saved up before hand to cover basic living costs as you attempt to break out. I plan on going to NYC, as I love it there, but there are other towns that will be easier to live in due to money restraints that have just as high quality of shows as NYC does. I am telling you to start saving now, because when you are trying to get a steady gig on Broadway, you can't turn down anything. This means that you NEED a flexible side job to care for yourself. Which brings me to...

    4. DON'T TURN DOWN ANYTHING

Except for those requesting s*x in return for a job. If want to get a gig on Broadway, producers take notice when substitutes are consistent. You NEED, I mean NEED to be able to take any and all subbing jobs on or off Broadway. Don't be too s****. to think that taking an off Broadway or even community gig is below you. Its called publicity, and the more you get your name out there, the better your chances.

    5. DON'T BE A DIVA

As much as Carlotta was praised in "Phantom" for being a Prima Donna, in today's world, no one will put up with that kind of behavior. In order to get noticed by big shots, attitude is a big concern. Producer's realize when putting together a new show or replacing a current spot, their first concern is talent, but equally important is if you would work well with the "team".To get a successful show going, it takes a lot of things, and having a crew that works well together is a top priority. In other words, don't be a jerk.

    6. STAY POSITIVE

On the same note, don't lose faith if things don't go like clockwork. You must be confident and able to stand lots of criticism, and you must be happy with anything you get. Don't  underestimate yourself ever, don't doubt yourself.

I leave you with a little Julie Andrews. Good luck, and I hope we meet someday!

"So, let them bring on all their problems

I'll do better than my best

I have confidence they'll put me to the test

But I'll make them see I have confidence in me"

  4. I think you go to New York. Yes. I'm sure of it, go to New York, then walk around a while. Your sure to get there sooner or later

  5. Voice lessons, dance lessons, and find your local theater for auditions.  Also in the summer find theater camps locally or on Broadway there are kid camps.  My brother really thought that was what he was going to do in life (but he changed his mind his senior year of high school) but in the summer he went to theater camps in NYC.  My mom would sublet an apartment in NYC for 6 weeks as we live in TX.

  6. jazz hands.  do the jazz hands.
