I really want to skip a grade, but I don't know how. I am in the gifted program, and it is very easy?

If you are underchallenged in the gifted program, have your parents make an appointment with the counselor or principal to discuss the possibility.  They don't skip people as easily these days as they used to because there generally are multiple tracks in school, but if the gifted program isn't enough for you, then it might work.

You can't just decide to skip a grade-- ask your gifted teacher what her opinion is and see if she could challenge you more.  Trust me-- you wouldn't want to move up into the next highest grade, even though you're probably smart enough to do so-- socially it would be tough.  Gifted programs ideally should challenge kids at their level-- go that route first and see where it goes before you start talking about grade skipping.

My mom (a teacher for 30 years) was always against children skipping grades, for one reason... the social aspect... kids who skip grades are likely to be social outcasts.. they're the youngest in their class, and they're looked at as nerdy do-gooders who think they're so smart...

I was also in the gifted program, but thought it was a crock... you're smart so you get to do MORE work? what the heck!?

in the grand scheme of things, skipping a grade or two isnt really going to matter.. if you're finding school easy, consider yourself lucky and enjoy the ride...  find extra curricular activities to fill your spare time...
