I rebuilt my boat starter today. It is running in reverse now.?

Im wondering if the cassing that holds the magnets is up side down would that reverse the poles

  1. you reversed the wiring.  this is called reverse polarity, you've got it wired backwards


  2. A starter is basically just a generator, and reversing the wiring will cause it to run backwards.

  3. Are you sure it's running backwards>> Turn the Bendix into the fly wheel and try starting> If it pulls the Bendix out than you have built it incorrect> If not than the starter has issue> Solenoid>Wiring> Battery>Did it not work before you rebuilt it>??& didn't you bench test it before installing it to see if it worked??
