The vehical have been given to me free and I don't know what to check for on used vehicals. The owner give it to my cousin and he allowed it to sit. He say the vehical runs good but need an oil change, new wiring and only a little knocking in the rear. Need answers concerning wasting money on a free vehical or is it worth the repair. .

  1. its probably worth repairing just make sure you change the oil and the plugs along with the gas that's in it ,it may be old and my not allow it to start and run to good, you also need to have a new battery in it and and make sure you take all the plugs out of it and turn the engine over a few times before installing the new plugs,if you can get it to fire up run it at idle speed for about 20 minutes then shut it back down and let it set for about 5 minutes then restart it,this will give the new oil time to settle on everything,i have started a lot of older cars that have set for a long time, just make sure when it does start and run the oil pressure comes up on it right away ,if it doesn't turn the engine off,you shouldn't have any problems getting it started it may smoke a little that's normal, and then it should clear up,make sure all fluid levels are full including anti freeze oil and transmission fluid, and go from there with it,take your time and be real thorough with it,it should be ok if it didn't have problems before he parked it ,good luck.

  2. Is yours the turbo or non turbo? I have the non turbo, mine was sitting in the garage for almost 4 years before I decided to take it on the road. Its in mint condition, but after sitting so long I drained the gas tank (just syphon it out) and put in fresh premium fuel, cleaned the air filter, new battery and  put in new synthetic oil and it started up fine.  If your spark plugs are old, you may need to change them, these cars respond well to new plugs.  The front 3 plugs very easy to change, the rear three is alot of work. A garage will charge you $400 to change the rear plugs, but there are plenty of websites showing detailed pictured instructions on how to change them yourself. Its actually not that hard, just takes time.

  3. I always said, "If it's free then it's for me".

Take it to a repair shop and have them do the oil change and a vehicle inspection. Then take it somewhere else for a vehicle inspection. Unless you know a very honest mechanic who will tell you the truth.

  4. Sell it before it breaks.  Those cars are incredibly expensive to fix, hard to find people who even can work on it, and are horribly unreliable.

  5. change the oil do a tune up and sell it.
