I received a parking citation yesterday for being parked up on the curb a little, and I have a few questions.

1. It says to pay by money order or check, so can I just go to 7-11 and get a money order?

2. Is there any way that my dad will find out about this? lol

3. I have to send the money order in the mail to them, will they mail me a receipt or how do I get a receipt?

  1. A parking citation is not a moving violation so it won't be reported. Yes if your 7-11 sells money orders, get one & send it in. Your money order will have an attached copy & that's your recept. You can get a money order at the post office too.

  2. the answer to 1, is yes a money order is a money order. Secondly, if the car is under your dads name he might if you tell him, which is your best choice, no matter how mad he might get understand that your old enough to drive so that means your responsible enough to admit your wrongs. Plus your paying for it anyway. i really do think you get a receipt because they need to send you confirmation of you payment. good luck and do the right thing, I learned that the hard way.

  3. Yes, you can mail a money order from 7-11, if yours sells them. If they are going to send you a receipt, yes, it will come in the mail. If your Dad finds out, don't sweat it. It is not a moving violation, and there will be no points against your insurance.

  4. 1. Yes you can.

    2. If you DON'T pay he will find out. If you do pay he probably never will.

    3. They typically won't send you a receipt, but you can request one. You won't need one though.

  5. You can go wherever they sell money orders to get a money order.  Most places are grocery stores, convenience stores, pawn shops, and check cashing shops.  If you are as young as you sound avoid the pawn shops and check cashing shops.

Your dad won't find out as long as you pay it on time and fully (ideally - sometimes police s***w up and don't mark a ticket paid - that's why it's good you want a receipt).  If you forget to pay it or if you do a payment plan, he could find out when he goes to renew the tags or title on the car (assuming he is one of the owners on the car).  If he doesn't own the car then he has no way to find out.

As for the receipt, I would go to the police station that issued the ticket (you can find this as the address to mail the payment to) and pay it there.  That way you can get a receipt right away without having to wait for it to be mailed.  Also, you can never trust the police to give you a receipt in the first place, so paying a ticket in person is always the best way to go.  (I have a healthy dislike of the police - they are people not gods, hence there are corrupt ones and you need to be mindful of that in all dealings with them.)

  6. I think a check will be easier (if you have a checkbook).

Your dad won't find out unless you (or your friends) tell him, or he's a cop.
