Let me guess, you received the scan as a measure of good faith from someone who wants you to send them some "small" amount of money so that they will send you bags of cash!  

The cheque is in one way or another linked to an advance fee scam.  The banks do not have the time to deal with all of the inquiries related to the prolific efforts to separate gullible people from their money, which only adds to the seeming legitimacy of the fraudsters.
