  1. Without knowing what the substance is, you used to stain the Pine, I suggest whatever you use over, should be a formulation that will be compatable.

       OK so I took the time to research.

       I would expect that any clear coat will work, once the stain has penetrated, dried. set, cured.

       I have no clue what the different shades of color you'll get in a Walnut based, water based, powdered stain, OR what the Pine relates to in furniture, etc. but a Clear Poly would work, as might a Varnish. Obviously as a water based stain it should have no real issues with reacting to anything applied over.

    Just my two "sense"


  2. Several coats of clear polyurethane,sanding between each coat.

    Thats what I did anyway!

  3. What you use for your top coat depends on the application of the wood that you're finishing. Is it flooring, furniture, indoor, outdoor?...
