  1. I hate to tell you this, but in your case, you'll have to get a cable box to record anything on that new Sony!

I've done some checking for a friend who is still in the VHS game, and have found that just about all NEW VHS recorders are sold as combo machines; either VHS recorder/DVD Player, or VHS recorder/DVD recorder.

While the prices on most of these boxes seem pretty reasonable, you have to check the fine print.  It seems that built-in tuners are NO LONGER incorporated into these machines.  Since we're just over a year away from the switch to Digital television, VHS/DVR manufacturers aren't even bothering to include built-in tuners, which won't work after the switch...you'll need a converter anyway (satellite, cable and even over-the-air antenna signals will ALL be DIGITAL).

In the near future, you may see DVD Recorders with built-in Digital tuners, but I don't think they'll bother with VHS at all.

  2. Hook it up to your TV using the red/yellow/white cable (you may have to purchase it separately).

  3. You just use cables between the tv and the dvd/vcr.  The tuner they are referring to is if you use your dvd/vcr to pick up channels from an antenna with an analog signal.
