I recently bought a cockatiel and was wondering what is the band around his foot for?

  2. that is for the store to keep track of him. it doesnt harm the bird in any way so its not nessecary to get it removed.

  3. Breeders put leg bands on their babies for ID of breeder, date chick hatched and some add a number for chick hatched.

    This can ID your bird if it gets lost - Do write the numbers down and keep in case.

    No need to remove the leg band, Unless the bird grows and the band is too tight.

    If this happens take to an Avian vet and have it removed/cut off.

    Some vets cut the bands off so they don't get caught on a toy part, or. Keep the band if it is cut off, again for ID purposes.

  4. The band around his foot only means that he belongs to someone and if he escapes and someone finds him then they know that he belongs to someone.
