  1. It can be risky buying from a private owner.  You are stuck with the car now and I hope you can get the problems fixed and that they aren't too major.  You may just have to spend a bit more money on things to get it all set for you and hope you haven't ended up with a longterm lemon.  I wish you the best.

  2. That's too bad. It doesn't matter if it's been 2 minutes, 2 days, or 2 weeks - used cars are sold "as is".  You had the opportunity to inspect and determine the condition of the car before you bought it. Sorry, but it's too late now.

  3. Buyer beware.  It takes some knowledge about a car to buy from a private owner.  As mentioned earlier, always have a car checked out by a mechanic before you enter into an agreement.  There isn't a lot you can do except plead your case to the prior owner and hope he has some ethics.

Sorry to hear about your experience, not a good way to learn.

  4. If the car is still covered by the factory warranty you may be able to get some of the items fixed that are covered under the warranty. If the vehicle was sold to you "as is" by the private seller, you are probably out of luck. It is your responsibility to have the vehicle inspected before purchase. Maybe you could try friendly negotiations with the seller to split the difference of the cost of repairs.

  5. You didn't ask a question, but I assume your question is "how do I get somebody else to take responsibility for this?".  That's what most folks in that situation would ask.

The answer is - you don't.  When you buy a car, you are responsible for determining its condition at that exact moment.  Then, everything that happens in the future is new and it's your problem.

Well, 2 days is 2 days into the future.  Are you competent to prove the problems existed when you bought the car?  Obviously not.  If you were competent to do that, you'd have done it then.

  6. You didn't get it with a guarantee.  Sorry.  I guess karma will have its day.

  7. This is why you always get a mechanic to check it out. A mechanic can tell you what is broken, patched up, or ready to break. If a mechanic cleared it and then a couple days went by and some things broke you could consider yourself unlucky, but now you will never know. Sorry for the bad luck/news and best of luck.
