I am from North Dakota, I know detroit is a bit of a rough city and I was wondering what areas are a little safer that are within 30 minutes of Down Town Detroit?

  1. Why are you asking in Politics?  You seem a little lost.  I suggest you post in TRAVEL: Detroit.

Why do Neocons post fake questions?

  2. Winsor, Canada

    Take the tunnel.

  3. Canada

  4. Check out Ann Arbor.  It's the only growing city in Michigan and is a sleeper suburb of Detroit.  It's about 40 mins from downtown Detroit.

Royal Oak is also a good choice.  MTV almost filmed the Real World there.

  5. Couldn't you just pay a few dollars more and get a ******* somewhere safer?

  6. Zero, zip, nada, zilch.  Get a 9mm and a permit to carry.

  7. Waterford, Pontiac, Rochester Hills, Shelby, Troy, Sterling Heights, Clinton, Farmington Hills, Novi, Royal Oak, etc. The city is not as bad as you think even though it is the worse in the country, you can walk around downtown no problem, Greektown, Jefferson Rd. etc. Personally I would be more worried about some suburb kid stealing my car radio. Yes, like others are saying Ann Arbor but it will be a shocker in cost of living coming from ND.

  8. Redford & Dearborn Heights to name two.

  9. Any of the northern suburbs.  Royal Oak, Troy, Rochester, Birmingham, Bloomfield, etc.  Royal Oak and Troy are very close to multiple expressways, which makes for an easy commute.

But if you're working in Detroit proper, I second the vote for a concealed pistol license and a handgun.  Detroit is ghetto... even the mayor!  Crime also happens in the suburbs, so don't get lulled into a false sense of security, but it's much safer than Detroit proper.

Ann Arbor is way too far away.  Not at all a good suggestion.
