My husband has got in the roof to try and look for any dead animals but not found a thing, I think they may have crawled into the gap between the brick and veneer of my walls which is impossible to get out - can anyone suggest away to get rid of the putrid smell coming from the walls in my lounge room.

The instruction on the baits said that the mice would go away to die but I really do not think that is the case.

  1. To really gross you out--  The smell will go away in a week or so because the mice will kind of petrify.

That has happened to me.  I recently used baits with peanut butter on them instead.  I did not reuse them; -just threw out each trap that was 'successful'.

I then found a pine-scented rodent 'repeller' (it looks a bit like potpourri) at a hardware store that is made to keep mice away from an area the size of a shed, work room, boat, etc.  (It needs to replaced every few months though)  I have not had mice return since placing this out!  -- I can not say for certain that this is the reason, but I have been pleasantly surprised that I have not seen any for several months!!

  2. If you can't reach the carcass, you have to live with the smell. But keep looking, it's hard to detect where the smell is actually coming from. Look under and behind all your furniture. It may be time consuming, but as the smell gets worse, your motivation will increase. If the smell is really bad, it may be someplace that you can get to. Otherwise, it may be time for a vaction. Happy hunting!

  3. this is a problem that occurs with poison ,the smell will fade and go within a month

  4. give it a month

we had rats in our roof once (we lived on a banana plantation) and had to nail the rat traps to the rafters to stop them getting caught and then running (limping?) off to die out of reach....
