noticed something unusal about it. I could see what looked like "writing" with a "marker" BETWEEN the ridges of the treads I could not make it out, however. It seems that the writing was on the part of the tire where the treads were attached. Does this mean that it was a "retread?"

  1. Chances are it was a part number or identification number. I'm an RV parts manager and that's how i use to identify them. Then I got stickers that easily peel off.

  2. Best to get a replacement and use it for the spare> as how long has it been sitting and drying out>

  3. no the writing was from the tire shop to identify it. you failed to mention how old your rv trailer was so its possible that the writing has faded. even if it is a retread it should be fine for a camper since you dont put many miles on them in a year. just remember to fix your last tire so youll always have a spare. i thought mine was stolen in colorado i had to temporary abandon mine on the highway because of a flat.weekend i had to leave it there till monday so i could fix the tire. i went back to fix it and it was gone. i called the police i thought they towed it. but nope it was gone. then 12 months later i got a letter saying if i didnt pick it up at the colorado police impound it would be auctioned off. THEY DID TOW IT. but for some reason  they didnt know what happened to it when i asked. well the impound fees came to 8,654.89 way more then i payed for it. it was auctioned off.
