Question:

I recently installed a p trap under my new sink and cannot connect the extension tube to the waste drain. ?

The waste drain is pvc with no threads and the extension pipe has no threads. Any ideas?

  1. You'll need compression type fittings.  They can provide these at your local home improvement store/hardware store.


  2. At the end of your p trap the tube is smooth. You need an extension tube the same size. It is flared about 3" at one end with threads on it.

    You slip the threaded nut and washer over the end of the trap and then slide the extension tube on and tighten down the nut.This should be measured so it's long enough to go in the wall fitting. You probably need a trap adapter for the wall. It is a short fitting and glues into the wall fitting and has a nut and washer that the end of your extension tube slides into, then tighten up nut. Measure the inside diameter of the pipe in the wall. It should be 1-1/2" or maybe 1-1/4". and your trap fittings are probably 1-1/4" unless its a kitchen sink then the trap is probably 1-1/2".
