I recently missed a doc's appt. due to unforeseen circumstances & forgot to cancel. More details...?

Now they are charging me a $50 fee for not cancelling in time. The policy is listed on the appt. card but I completely forgot about it. I have never missed a doc's appt. at this office since I've been going there which is about 4 years. Has this happened to you? Any ideas on what to say to avoid this fee?

Unfortunately, if their policy was made known to you, they have the right to charge you. I have cancelled a couple times the same day of my appointment because i was sick, and was never charged because i really had no control over that. I guess some offices are more strict with that policy then others. I never thought that was a fair thing to do because lets face it, things do happen sometimes when you have no choice but to cancel at the last minute. I would be a little upset about paying $50.00 for that also :-)
