I really did not know that there was such a difference I thought that I could just go and purchase a washer and a dryer. But can I tell if it's gas or not just by looking at the hook-ups.

  1. Yes, if there is a gas line and no big plug it's gas.  If there is just a big plug, it's electric.  ya know what I mean a large three prong plug, not the regular kind.

  2. If the dryer is gas you'll only see a standard electrical outlet.  If it's an electric dryer setup, you'll see the 220V outlet.  The 220V is a huge black box with large plugins.

  3. Is there a plug for the dryer or a gas hose coming out of the wall or floor?

  4. It its gas, there will be a small copper tube coming out of the floor or the wall, as well as a plug.  If its just electric, no copper tube and a large 3 or 4 prong wall plug.

  5. There should be a gas line near the dryer hook up, if it is gas.  Otherwise, there will just be an outlet.  Also, there is a difference when it comes to natural gas and propane.  I believe that most gas dryers come with the equipment to hook them up to natural gas, but if you use propane you will have to get a conversion fitting.
