There are several great companies that you can try but keep in mind that rates can vary hundreds of dollars from one company to another.

Just this morning in my agency I quoted someone and there was a $230.00 difference per six months from the lowest rate to the second lowest. It is extremely important for you to comparison shop if you want the best rate.

Although I can't write insurance in New York I can suggest that you try the following site that does provide auto insurance quotes in New York: http://www.InsuranceEasy.org

This insurance consumer site offers links to free quoting services.  This is one of the better sites that I have come across.

Once you bring up their site click on the auto insurance section of their site.  They list several links where you can get free comparison quotes.  By using each of them you will most likely be able to get one of the lowest rates.

In addition to using the free quoting services on this site I would also get quotes direct from four of the top on-line insurers using the following links:

I was able to save money through a free on-line quoting service at  http://gsx1.com/InsuranceComparison.html

They had several links. All I did was fill out their quote request and received back a lot better rates then what I was paying.
