My cat got out a few days ago due to an open door, and has been in the woods behind my house ever since. It has rained and I've seen him since, he is okay. He has even come on the porch to use the litter box. My question is, now that I know he kind of wants to be home...should I leave food out so he will keep coming back until I can lure him into the house or should I put nothing so he is so hungry he wants to come home? He is a cat and will hunt if need be, so I don't want him to become wild since I did not feed him and never return. I was about a foot away from him last night taping on a can of fancy feast but I slipped and he ran off. I also have a cat trap but I think he is just too smart for it. I will do anything and spend whatever money to get my cat back, Ive walked miles through woods and searched high and low, so I think food is the best option? I just need your help now. Thanks!

  1. yea keep putting food out Does he have a favorite food? if so try putting that out. when you do, whistle. And the cat can find his way home. he'll come again. Don't worry.

  2. why is he so scared of you? Why wont he just come when you call him?/ I guess I missed this in earlier questions. Try putting the "trap" on the porch with his favorite food in it and get him trapped.

Good luck, i hope you get him home before something else gets him in the woods

  3. I would leave the food on the porch and try to lure him in. When my cat used to run away I would make a trail of cat treats and leave the door open and she would always follow it in. Hope everything works out for you. I know how stressful it is to have an animal run. Good Luck!

  4. Yeah, just leave food out for him.  It might take patience, but don't give up!  As long as he knows where his home is, he will stick around the area.  I know it must be so scarey!!!

Keep trying the cat trap and putting food on your porch.

    You will eventually catch him.

But, don't stop putting food out --- cats dont have the intellectual capacity to understand what you are doing.  They will simply look for food elsewhere -- deeper into the woods or onto another street and get lost for real.

    Keep the food coming.

  5. Due to the fact that wild animals are in the woods and this puts him in danger I would recommend taking food out with you (don't leave it out) and coaxing him back in to your arms. Don't reach and grab for him. Set the can food right next to you. Place your hand right next to it hovering above the can. Wait patiently for him to come to the food. It may take a while. Wait until he's hungrily eating and then snatch him and don't let go.

The woods are not safe for a kitty even with claws. DO NOT LEAVE FOOD OUT FOR HIM WITHOUT YOU!

  6. I am so sorry to hear this, it's sad really.  The best thing I think you can do is lure the cat in with food and or treats, that way the cat will realize that the "easy meals" are at home rather than having to hunt and work for the food.  I would ask all your neighbors to keep an eye out and if they can lure the cat in as well.  I'd try traps and what ever else you can think of.  My heart goes out to you and am not too sure what else you can do.

I did a little research and found you some links, best of luck

  7. I say put some food out. If you have a dog door(I doubt you do) you can have a trail of cat food leading into the house. You can also re-try your cat trap with all of his favorite foods, and leave it out for a few days so that is the only food he can get easily and he might fall for it.

  8. put the food in the cat catcher
