i was wondering if there is a website i could go to to figure out how to disassemble, clean, and make sure that everything in it is in working condition. I want to know because I'm gonna be a Marine soon, and I'd like to know as much about guns as i can before i go, and id also like to fire it so i can get used to recoils on several different guns. she is the one that pulled it out for me because she has had it stashed for awhile. I'd prefer what I'm looking for to be free if possible.

Thank you in advance

  1. Read some gun magazines about different types of guns and which end the bullet comes out of. The Marines will teach you all they can about the guns they use. The cleaning and inspection of your revolver is  easy to learn from many sources. Here you get words. Empty the gun and work the action a few times to see if it seems to work correctly. Buy a .22 gun cleaning kit and ask at the shop for a booklet about cleaning a gun.  Better yet wait until the Marines get you through their course. You will be competent at that time.  Everyone else in the group is the same at one time, they knew nothing.

  2. The great thing about revolvers is there just ain't much to take apart. Tke off the wood or plastic grips, swing out the cylinder, clean, oil and back together.

You want to make sure there's not a lot of play in the cylinder when it's shut, that the cylinder advances when you c**k the hammer and that the cylinder is lined up correctly as the hammer drops. That's really about it.

If you are concerned about the condition, after you clean it take it to a smith for a look-see. If you are nice about it, he'll likely show you a few firearms, tell him what you told us and if he's a stand up guy he'll let you handle the Beretta if he has one.

Good luck in the Corps and thank you.
