I really don't like buying older birds, but I kinda had to do it. A homeless person had him and he was in bad shape. I've gotten him happy and adjusted, so now i need to get him trusting me. Will he follow the example of my blue crown or continue to be a rebel?

  1. Older birds make awesome pets! I have 6 rescues total- 5 of them were older when I got them.  Remember that 3 for a conure is still young! Conures can live for 20+ years...so three is still a toddler!

My most recent rescue is Sunnie a 4 year old sun conure. She has a slight disability, and a awesome personality. She is loving and sweet. She lets everyone handle her, and gives kisses to anybody! Her personality outshines her disability and everyone that meets her she wins over very quickly. You never know if your new birds personality will resemble your other conure. Our Sunday conure acts totally different from our sun. Birds are just like humans, they are individuals. To gain his trust may take time. Since you already have another bird as a pet, it may take less time if your new bird sees you handleing and interacting with the other one. I always spend time sitting near the new birds cage and hand it treats. I always allow the bird to come to me on it's own time. I never try to force it to allow me to touch it or handle it.

I really think that you have done a wonderful thing by taking this bird in. Now the bird has a chance at a great life with a home, caring owner, and even a birdie friend! This bird may turn out to have a awesome personality, and be the best bird you've ever owned- he has a lot to be grateful for.  My rescues give me the most fullfillment...I know that they are getting a second chance at a life they deserve. And the ones we adopt always have the greatest personalities.
