I recently read that Dane Reynolds is cynical, but from reading I didn't get that at all. Help me out?

I read it in Surfing Magazine, but I've read every interview I could get my hands on about the guy and to me he didn't come off cynical. Just wondering if there are people out there who think he is a cynic and if they could explain. He just seems to want to "surf" rather than "win" sometimes.

I don't think he's cynical.  I think he likes to be a bit of a smartass with journalists who keep on asking the same annoying questions over and over.  Check out the interviews with him on surfline....he seems OK to me.

My brother met him at Lowers last year and talked to him for a bit, said he was funny and pretty chill. I get the impression that (like Jamie O) he doesn't really want to do many contests, just surf. And he started competing pretty young, like a lot of pros, and maybe he's just burnt out from competing and all the press and whatnot. I wouldn't believe everything in Surfing Mag, or especially not in Transworld Surfing. I'm reserving my judgements of him until/if I ever meet him though.
