Question:

I recently saw a video of a chimpanzee dressed in a human's clothes, riding a skateboard. This made me ponder.

...Have any experiments been made in the lab, or otherwise, involving artificially inseminating a chimpanzee with human DNA. I know it's an unpopular subject, but it seems that we are genetically closer than a horse and a donkey, or a horse and a zebra...and they can produce offspring!

I've read that chimps and humans share 99% of the same DNA, but has anyone had the guts to try cross-breeding?

All religious fanatics...Please try and restrain yourselves. This is a hypothetical question in the anthropology section!

  1. This may be a unique idea, but for "religious reasons," I wouldn't want to ponder it. I wish you well. This is total bestiality. Peace, Love and God Bless.

  2. that may not have been a chimp

chances are it was one of them skater punks that really needed to shave

  3. I don't think experiments of this nature have been performed.  Researchers in this field I'm sure would run up against a lot of obstacles with relation to ethics.  Sure would be interesting though!  We don't know that creatures with a combined human/chimp genome would reproduce.  Any number of things could cause a hybrid to be sterile.

Also, let me make one thing perfectly clear: BESTIALITY IS ENTIRELY IRRELEVANT TO THIS DISCUSSION.

Dictionary.com defines bestiality as sexual relations between a person and an animal; sodomy.  Last time I checked, artificial insemination does not count as sexual relations.  If it did, all vet students would be incarcerated.  It is foolish and close-minded to think that all practices involving a human and an animal's reproductive organs are considered bestiality.

  4. Read any HG Wells lately? I'm currently reading the Island of Dr. Moreau. Isn't it funny that the same kind of ideas are still making the religious uproar over 100 years later?

Cross breeding though I think that there would be too many ethical dilemmas involved with cross breeding a chimp and a human. Is it man or animal? Although we can say, man is animal, man has human rights, animals do not. If it has been done, it's been done in secret by some wildly wealthy and equally mad scientist.

  5. Wow I never thought of that. I'm sure that someone out there thought of doing that. But of course it would probably be hard to find information on just because of the subject. There is a fetish called bestiality involving sexual intercourse with animals. A bit yuck to me but whatever toots your horn. If you look up bestiality you might find something. I ain't lookin, some of the sites are traps that won't let you back out. I know thanks to my nephew who got into one and couldn't get out and left it on our computer. Lil prick at least he could have warned me (YUCK!!!).

  6. Interestingly enough, there have been, but they were unsuccessful.  Those wacky Soviets tried it, as well as, supposedly, some other people.  There were never any scientifically verified hybrids, though.  I can't say I'm sad about this.

  7. HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A PICTURE OF THE AUSTRALIAN FEDERAL HEALTH MINISTER, TONY ABBOT?
