  1. I was the same exact way. Get some anti-anxiety pills (some that you won't become dependent on) and take them to calm down. Bring a book to distract you when you get nervous. If you feel one coming on calmly walk to the bathroom, sit down and relax. Take deep breaths. Then return to your seat and read. You may also want to do this at the airport (which I think is much more stressful than the plane). You may want to bring more than one book. If it is a night flight, go to sleep! Good luck!

  2. Go and see your family doctor, and request a prescription for some anti-anxiety medication. Take the recommended dosage before boarding the plane. The last thing you need is to start hyperventilating in mid-flight. Wishin' you well ...  :)

  3. I've experienced the same thing, and on an airplane no less.

When traveling now, I make sure I've got my IPod and a few books or magazines.  Anything to occupy myself.

I'll also have a drink or three before getting on the plane.

You can also tip off the stewardess.  She'll make sure to keep an eye on you.
