I recently took in my adult nephew whom I believe to be autistic..?

I am currently awaiting to get school records so I can get him tested. Though he finshed school in speacil ed. He has never been tested for this. Can anyone tell me what these test entail. Thank you.

  1. You didn't mention it, but I hope he is receiving services through Vocational Rehabilitation through your state or county.  If he graduated from a special education classroom, he will qualify. Give them a call to set up an appointment for him to be accepted and they should provide the autistic testing for you.


  2. There is no specific test in diagnosing autism. It is highly unlikely that he made it into his adult years without being diagnosed, though.  Some people have autistic tendencies but are nto autistic.  He would meet with a psychometrist, speech therapist, phsycial therapist and occupational therapist.

  3. The speech tests are just communication ablities. Nothing drastic or physical.

  4. There are several tests that they use, but many of the tests are geared toward identifying autism in younger children.  Here is a list of the DSM-IV Diagnostic Criteria for Autistic Disorders.  This criteria covers all of the disorders within the Autistic Spectrum.   Here is the link:
