I recieve many mails which say I have won 5 million pounds or 1 million dollars . r these mails genuine?

I am told in these e-mails that my e-mail id was selected for lottery and that i have won cerain million dollars by way of gift. Then I am told to give certain details to claim the prize. Has anyboby won any such prizes or these are just c**p mails?

They are called phishing mail.  They are trying to get you to acknowledge your address, sucker you into sending money or giving personal information.  With verified address they can sell it to marketers, with personal information they can open credit cards in your name or raid you bank account, and with getting your money they can laugh all the way to the bank.  If it does not come with a letter in the mail, it is a scam.


  2. Scams all of them! If you didn't enter a lottery or contest, you could not have won it.

  4. Such mails are called spam mails. They are always sent to general people like us to get attracted towards the link provided in that email(that you have won.....). It's always done because we get attracted towards such links and open them - that page wold contain a few ads placed on their site. If the ad is of any product you require or you are in need of when you click that ad provided on the site. then, site owner will get paid for the   clicks per month for from ad company. thus, such mails are sent if still not clear read the article provided below of google.com (actually, it is the service for the same legally run b google and you can also earn some money through this service/links below.):

  8. These are usually scams. Fraud emails to get your personal details which could be used in any kind of Fraud.  

  9. They're not real. I got them every few days as well.

    I also read an article last week about a woman who gave them her e-mail password and e-mails got sent to all her contacts saying she was stranded and to send money to a certain address. Some of them actually did it. It's a really bad idea to reply to them.

  17. These are one of the commonest scams you can think of, Never accept such things, nothing comes easy and for free.

    Onething to note is that, if you did not partake in a competition that gives rewards, never trust such mails.

    Whenever you recieve them, spam e-mail or report as spam.
