I read about it in Ripley's Believe It or Not 3rd Series, it might be called the Daddy Longlegs Tree or something similar but I don't remember. Does anyone know?

THere are a number of trees with aerial roots.  A common name is "walking tree" - but that term can refer to a number of different tree speices in different parts of the world.

  2. that probably is true, but this would be a very large adult tree that would have roots growing aboveground 30 feet tall. the most famous tree that has roots that grow above the ground is a mangrove. this tree i think is also called less commonly the daddy long legs tree but i am not positive. normally the roots are only 5 feet above ground becuase they grow only in coastal areas and the hurricanes wash away  the beach soil causing roots to grow upward away from major waves. mangroves are also known for helping prevent erosion by holding the soil in place during coastal storms

  3. I have seen banyan( not sure of the spelling here) trees and they drop a root system from their branches.  Those roots that fall from the branches then become another trunk of that same tree. If the tree is old enough, it can look like a forest of trees but really only one.

  4. could it be the tree of teneer? i couldn't find anything else like your description.
