Question:

I removed earrings after first piercing -- Chances of infection after 6 weeks?

I had my ears pierced for the first time about 6-7 weeks ago at CLAIRES (stupid?!!) and removed the starter earrings to put on some new ones I bought. After a few minutes of prodding and trying to get the earring in, my ear began bleeding a small bit. It was as if I could not reach the back hole of my piercing (this is for both ears). I used some antiseptic on my ears both before and after trying to get the earrings in. I tried a few hours later and it really seems as if the holes are slowly closing up altogether.

My concern is -- what are the chances of infection? I had no pain or signs of infection before I removed the earrings, so the only chance it could have happened is when I removed them and tried to stick the earrings back in. There's still no pain.. maybe a little bit of clear discharge and the actual hole is a little red but has not spread past that point. Maybe it's irritated or worse? I do not want the infection (if there even is one) to get trapped inside.

Should I go to a pro piercing place and have them reopen the holes with a needle or would it be okay to just let the holes heal and close up? Please help.. Thanks in advance.

  1. sometimes it happens.....it happend to me tooo so u have to make sure that u dont put the earing lock too tightly .....

  2. If you still want your piercings go in to a piercing place, they will fix the problem for you and give you better directions on how to take care of your new piercings! I too have changed my earrings before they were done healing and I wouldn't give up with getting a new earring in, it bled a little but I somehow shoved it all the way through and then they were infected for like a day. Anyway it sounds like you still want your earrings so my advice would be if you can't get earrings in yourself go see a professional.
