  1. if you want to save the hardwood, you will have to get something to weaken the glue's hold on the floor, then carefully peel it away with a scraper.  You may be able to scrape it away without chemicals to loosen the glue, but be careful

  2. sand it down.

  3. Your best bet is to use a sander, and some safety goggles and a mask because it will throw up a lot of dust. Then once all of that is cleaned out refinish your floor.

    Good luck!

  4. There's a trick to doing this which took me a while to find out how...

Buy white spirit. Apply white spirit to the floor with a brush. Soak it properly (this shouldn't ruin the wood as white spirit has no effect on wood products and is actually used in many  wood products such as wood stain and varnish). Leave it to work for about 30 seconds to a minute. Scrape it off using those paint scrapers or spatula. Thank me for telling you something which took me ages to find out and a lot of cursing.

Forget the sander...clogs up the sandpaper making it useless.

OH! and remember...once you get the glue and paper off to wash the flooring with a rag/sponge and warm soapy water.

p.s. wear gloves and open the windows and don't get any stuff in your eyes...always use eye goggles...safety first in any job you do. Remember.
