I rented a car with my visa and ????

Question

i rented a car with my visa and they told me what the charges were and deposit,they said they held it on my card and 24-72 hours my deposit will be back on card.

on my account there is no activity of these transactions and this is a new account for me.

i do have a reciept from the rental company thats says $155 charge to visa????

what has happened?

I suggest you call Visa and discuss it with them. I use to work for Mastercard. The transactions could still be pending authorizations on the card. Still, give Visa a call.

It depends on the sponsor company. I have a card that takes up to 2 weeks for them to even post a payment. Not knowing how long ago you rented the car this may be the situation.

WHEN you use credit it may take up to 3 days for the charge to appear on your account

Typically, car rental companies (and hotels) put a hold on your card to cover damages or loss.  This doesn't show up as an actual charge, but it does reserve that amount out of your total credit to cover any potential loss to the company. If no losses occur, the only charge that should show up would be the actual cost of the rental (+taxes, and other fees, etc.). Obviously, the rental company cannot determine this amount until after the car has been returned.
