The theif (someone from work) has already gone on several shopping sprees. I reported it within, at the maximum, 3 hours of it being stolen. I realize if they try to use it won't work. But will the transaction simply not go through, or will it alert the cashier that it's actually STOLEN?

  1. It will not go through and the employee should keep the card and cut it in half. I would suggest you put your account on fraud alert through Trans Union Fraud Dept. Their toll free # 1-800-680-7289. They will notify the other 2 bureaus for you. It has to be renewed every 90 days

  2. The cashier will confiscate the card and call the police.

  3. If the card is run through an electric card reader, it should show up as stolen.  If the store uses the old fashion stamping machine, it would not show up until the paper is submitted by the store. Very few use these now.

Since you reported the lose of the card, you should not be charged, even if it is approved.  The bank should be issuing a new card and account to you.

  4. When the theif tries to swipe your card and buy items, it will simply say "Declined."  But, the credit card company will notice that the card was trying to be used...

  5. if a stolen card is reported, then if reported, yer card's stopped & they should remove ALL the unauthorized purchases from yer acct during the time the card was stolen.
