I reserved rooms in Paris at a hotel with a special rate that said it was non-refundable. Can I get out?

At the time I didn't realize it was non-refundable, but it turns out we're not going. I tried talking to the hotel owners, but they refuse to refund any part of the money. It's $1200 for two rooms for two nights. I don't feel it's fair. Doesn't anyone know what I can do? Have you have this problem before?

  1. That is $300 a night for each room. Did you book direct with the hotel?

I have sympathy for you. If it is part of a large hotel group try talking to their sales people.

  2. Call you credit card company and dispute the charge. Tell them you did not know it was nonrefundable.

  3. special rates often are non-refundable ... and non-refundable means just that ... which just goes to show that you should always check all the conditions before you agree to book something, especially if it's a special offer

yes, I've had the problem before and now if I book anything I check exactly what the conditions are before I agree, and if I book something that's non-refundable at least I go into it with my eyes open ... the only thing you can do is double check all the original paperwork and make sure that it was made clear at the time of booking exactly what the conditions were (whether you took notice of it is a different matter) ... if it wasn't stated or was very ambiguous then you might have grounds to complain but it kind of sounds like the hotel owners are not likely to be sympathetic as you've tried talking to them already

it sounds like a fairly expensive hotel which makes me wonder what the full rate would have been
