  1. At least we don't have to recite that american thing everyday at the start of school like those in the US :S i'd get kicked out or something in my pure refusal to go along with it.

  2. If you think it's boring, you're in a musical minority. Haydn was so impressed with it that he started work on a tune for the Austrian Emperor - he came up with the "Emperor's Hymn", the tune of which is still the German anthem. W.C. Bach liked GSTK enough to use it in the slow movement of a harpsichord concerto. Beethoven commented, "The English don't realise what a treasure they possess in their national anthem."

Judging by your question and the comments, some of us still don't.

  3. Find or hire an British musician like Elton John or the Beatles or any artist and let them think about it. That's what I would do. However, are you serious? I am not British but I still love your anthem.

  4. Most national anthems are stupid and boring. I don't know why.

  5. I suggest we get a top guitarist (Plant, Slash, whoever) to come on stage and rework it, just like Hendrix reworked the Star-Spangled Banner for Woodstock. Same tune, but with added explosions he he he... that'll get things started.

For percussion we could have olympic staff shaking  charity tins and asking for donations to try to offset the cost of the event....

  6. I so agree, why not have something with a spring in it like Donald where 's yer troosers.

Only with different words of course.

I can just imagine Scottish soldiers swinging their kilts to that one, as they marched along.

  7. the english anthem is older than the royal line.but h**l why not flower of scotland. how about the s*x pistols version. or streets of london as its the london olympics not the uk or England.

  8. Yes, it is boring, but it's been around for so long, that I doubt it will get "livened up".

  9. Not as  bad as US anthem. 'bombs bursting in air'!  You know a beautiful anthem is Russia's

  10. talking about more on modern times or tribute to the people who have fallen and continue to support the people that risks their lives to keep England and Great Britain safe.

Also Brittany is very boring a do agree a lot.

  11. It sure beats the American one.

  12. I couldn't agree more, our NA is really boring,we should have something like Land of Hope and Glory, that wakes people up.

  13. I suppose a rewrite of GSTQ could help or a song like Rule Britannia. There are some very rousing versions of that.

EDIT: Skeff- You remind me of (p)Rik  from the young ones with what you said lol. :D no offence meant btw your entitiled to your opinion but its just somethinghe would say lol.

  14. I love ours;)

  15. Perhaps a repudiation of monarchy and a celebration of democracy, non-secularism and general racial and persona,  class and racial equality.

  16. Even though the words aren't particularly favourable to the the British, the Marseillaise has a very stirring tune with a very powerful sentiment, but dignified and inspiring too. everything our national anthem isn't!

  17. as an american, I suggest a beetles song, or a pink floyd song.

    lost(dot)eu/21618

    replace (dot) with .

  18. Lets have some dance music.Techno garage. And rapp.Qe2 she does the bizz and what is more her name is liz,She is the ruler of our land her and phil go hand in hand.zappa whappa doo de doo.shove your anthem up your*um.

  19. The tune was originally in a dance rhythm called a gigue, but it was considered too lively for Queen Victoria so we've got out present dirge.  It's nice and simple for drunk football fans.

When in doubt, you can usually nick a good tune from the Germans.  The triumphant march towards the end of Beethoven's fifth is good stirring stuff.  Now can we come up with some words that won't offend the Scots (or not very much)

  20. I think it should be about the country rather than the monarch.

I always feel that the German national anthem sounds very patriotic and strong.

  21. I agree.  It's totally drab!
