Question:

I ripped the drain seal friction ring. What else can I use?

I am replacing the drain and the paper seal ripped.

  1. Drains don't have paper rings, can you explain further.


  2. all it does is allow you to tighten the nut all the way and its not ruubbing up agianst the rubber gasket.  you can use anything slippery, just put it on the gasket and tighten the nut.  in all honesty if the friction washer is only ripped in  one spot you can probably get away with usiing it.  not that big of a deal.

  3. put a piece of tape on the top side, stick it back in there and crank away.

    It's there to allow the ring to slip, so you can get the ring nut tight without ripping the rubber seal.  the paper seal really doesn't seal anything.

  4. do you mean the rube gasket. some really good silicone but you have to let it dry a day or so   I use dapa silicone on my bath room drain when it leak and it has held ove two years now

  5. the friction ring allows the nut to be tightened up without wrinkling the rubber gasket- you can cut one out of a cereal box and install it with the shiny side facing the nut.
