last year i did not run cross country, but i did run track, and in track i ran sprints(400-100) and long jump. This year i am running cross country, i like it alot, and i've become close to everyone on my team. the thing is most of the cross country runners are going to do distance track during track season. I wanted to do sprints and stuff but i don't know anymore, i wanna run distance to stay in shape, but i like both. should i do distance track or short distance track?

  1. i would also say to do both.  at my school, track consists of sprinters, jumpers, and long distance.  they all have different workouts i.e. the distance kids go on different runs each day, the sprinters and jumpers have various workouts on the track.  because i am mid-distance (400 and 800) i tend to run the sprint workouts most days but try to go on 1 or 2 distance workouts a week.  it helps me stay balanced while chilling with all my friends..

  2. If you can, do both! It's awesome that you like to run! Personally, I'd have to say do cross-country this year, because the distance will make regular track easier, so that you can do it next year. It's great exercise and will make everything else a breeze. Interval every year. This year do cross country, and next year do track. Then repeat. Good luck in your running!

  3. Do the one that is more fun. Otherwise you should consider that if you do long distance, your cross country skills will cross over. You'll be staying in shape either way, if you're really afraid of gaining weight, then you should do distance, otherwise its up to you.

  4. you can do both. when xc comes you train for long distance. then after xc is over you start training for track(sprints) i know alot of girls who do this. including me. good luck=]
