  1. I think its the same everywhere. Eventually the tax will be added to the booze taken home . They will have to get the revenue from somewhere.

  2. i dont know,,, times are changing,, i can stop in with the mrs and 3 bottles of wine for a tenner,, go the pub and have 9--10 pints and the mrs have5--6 wines it costs about £40--£45 what do you do????

  3. true, more & more people tend to stay at home now with a 6 pack instead of going out, its cheaper and you dont have to stand out in the cold & rain to smoke

  4. Not seen any difference and I'm a smoker and many people I know are smokers. We still go to our local and there seems to be the same number of people out not increased or decreased. No difference if we go somewhere else for a drink either.

  5. They aren't emptier here.  There are still places that resemble clubs here that you can still smoke in.  Most restaurants have banned it, but there hasn't been a drop in business.

  6. Yes they are here.

  7. I think it has more to do with the economy than smoking. It is cheaper to go to the store and buy a 6 pack for 5-6 bucks rather than 5 bucks a beer. People don't have the disposable income to hang out and drop 50-80 dollars at a bar. Then have to drive home on top of it. Personally as a non-smoker I like the smoking ban. Now I don't come home from a bar smelling like a Marlboro!

  8. No but I am not even a social smoker now to bloody cold

  9. They're just as busy as ever here as we're a city where all 19 year olds have to do is cross the border to drink. Sensible people had already abandoned local nightlife.

  10. ye we the same here in ireland most people prefer to stay an home and have a few bottles of .......wine

  11. Frankly, I could probably generate more business off my front porch these days.  Pop up a barbecue, throw on some ribs, and have a keg and ashtrays available--I'm the latest thing since Starbucks!!!

Add'l info if you're maid in c...come on it's front porch and Ribs and no Kids...don't believe in them after 9pm!!!  Gotta give thumbs up for absolute honesty!!!

  12. Our Labour club has just closed down. What a shame, It was first opened in the early 1900's.

  13. I have been a night club bouncer for nearly 20 years at the weekends and notice a huge downfall in customers at the weekends.

peeps don't want to get pissed then stand in the rain for a ciggie.

  14. My fathers pub has been so empty since last summer that it wasn't making even....has had to sell!ho-hum=(

    x

  15. I noticed they became emptier too and I never noticed how smelly they are.

Seriously, you take your life in your hand walking past the bogs

  16. Always has been quite empty cos its a dump - only go there when I dont want to go into town.  Smoking ban is great.

  17. Yep.Ireland were one of the first if not the first to introduce it and pubs are being sold off every week now.Only place still getting the same trade is Dublin because of the tourists. The sale of wine in Ireland has gone through the roof lately as people now entertain at home more.(cheers Aldi.)

  18. yes they have but it is so much better u can now eat without peole smoking near u and u can not go home stinking of smoke. best thing we have done for years

  19. good all the cancer carriers now at least you can get pissed with out all that smoke in your lungs

  20. I think it's because it's winter.  They will fill up again when the weather gets better.

  21. Sadly, NO. My little iggledy piggledy 300 year old local, has now become a creche. We have the London YaYa's down with their "well heeled" offspring, and they run  AMOK. Gone are the darts matches, euka games, domino's, whist drives, snooker matches, chicken in a basket, and curry night and the good old Cornish sing songs. In comes posh nosh, Tequila Sunrise, the "green wellie" brigade, horsey laughter,Tarquins and Annabelle's, Ruperts, and Hector's. Them up one end of the pub, and their equally obnoxious offspring, the other end, running amok, and causing absolute mayhem. They can keep it! I'll stay at home, rather than put up with the "nobs" taking over.

  22. There are a lot of pubs in Shropshire empty too.
