She was drowning at the beach early in the morning when there were no lifeguards. I saved her and her and her husband are so grateful. She wants me to be the godmother of her almost due baby. They are Japanese and will be going back next week. She wants to know the name I have chosen before then and will send me photos and updates :) I am so happy but I need an opinion or suggestions on the name I think I like.

Midori which means green (her mothers favourite colour) and the middle name Nami which means wave and symbolises her mother being rescued. Their last name is Sasaki

So her name will Midori Nami Sasaki

What do you think?

  8. Midori is a nice name, but personally I'm not a fan of naming people after colors.

    How about:

    Misa (which means beautiful sand)

    Airi (love logic(?)

    Tomomi (Wisdom + beauty)

The thing about Japanese names is that there are a wide variety of kanji with different meanings to choose from. So you can choose a name based on meaning, or even number of strokes (certain stroke numbers are considered lucky).

Will the baby live in Japan? Japanese do not normally have second names, and giving her one might brand her "different," which might lead to teasing when she's a bit older. Japanese children are sensitive about that.

  9. i don't know about the green part can you imagine your name being green? i only know one Japanese name and it belongs to my friend, it's Chiyoko and it means child of a thousand generations. the wave bit sounds good though.
