but I keep hearing about a monthly fee. Do I still have to pay for anything if I buy if from there versus from DishNetwork or from TiVo? Also will it work with DishNetwork because it says that it won't jwork with satellite just with cable, but I'm reading others use it with satellite? Could it be the model used? The one I'm looking into is the TiVo HD DVR.

  1. If there no service needed like Dish or Directv is because is a Stand-Alone Receiver ... This one doesn't need service but... you have to pay a fee of 12.95 or lifetime payment option of 299.00, But remenber that you still need some tv service so I'll go for DVRs... there's much more you can do and you don't have to see what you 're recording cause DVRs have to tunners!!

  2. you  have to have  cable and yes there is monthly fee for tivio you can use it on directv

  3. Cable cards are for cable and you have dish network - btw im sorry you have dish network. Directv is the way to go. Anyways, you have access cards for sattalite and they are only used to unscramble the signal sent to your reciever to get your programming. Otherwise, anyone could get free satalite. that is what those cards are for, and you cant use a cable card in a satallite reciever. You dont need a card for tivo - since it hooks up to your reciever.

Tivos are better than dvr's from any company since Tivo has been out many years longer and they have more advanced features. ANd, they copyright their service. So, this makes it harder for others to compete. With dish or dtv you will have to pay monthly service fee for your dvr, unless you have the premium package (at least with DTV). You should research your tivo options since there are different models available and find one that suits your needs. No reason to pay higher price for an advanced model adn you wont use the features.

Lastly, there is a monthly fee with tivo unless you pay the lifetime membership. But, be sure you will have the tivo so long that you dont lose money on the deal. If you only have the tivo for like a year you are better off paying the monthly fee. So, see if you can find a store that lets you try the service there -s o you can get a feel for it. Or, pay the monthly fee for a month and if you like it, the lifetime membership. There is no refund at all on the lifetime fee, so you want to be sure before spending the $300.00.

I have used tivo and think it is better than dtv dvr and I love DTV. I think you will be happy with the tivo and the lifetime membership. You can even switch models on the tivo and still keep the lifetime membership for service. So, as things advance, so can you with out more cost on membership. Make sure with tivo that is still the case. WIth any company, terms are always subject to change.

Lastly, sales people are great, but dont ever bank on them. there job is to sell a product and this means - they may not always be honest with you. Sometimes, they dont have the latest information or they slept during training and misunderstood the terms of a product. I was a call center employee who had to correct many sales peoples mistakes and it was quite often a customer was talked into buying something and they were given incorrect information.

So, your best bet is to check online and serch the product by serial number and model number and company. You can check how things work there, even calling a company directly -you can get a new employee and not always good information.  I used to get annoyed listening to co-workers give false infromation because they didnt read the new updates section when we signed in to our computers before starting work and what they said was true the day before - but not true that day. So if you call, it isnt wrong to aks them to double check to make sure no changes on a service was made the day before.

    Hoep this helps.

  4. Hi Blessed,

You do not have to have cable. If you did have cable then you would use the cable card instead of the set top box the cable company gives you.

You will pay a monthly fee for your Tivo. We think it is worth it. We prefer TiVo because of simplicity of use. The schedule is always correct because it is updated every day. I can program TiVo to record from out of town over the Internet. TiVo learns what you like and recommends shows that you might like. Often times we never would have known they were on. You can program an entire season of a given series with a single click and TiVo never forgets. You can tell TiVo you like someone or something and it will locate shows for you. For example if you tell it you like John Wayne it will watch for and record anything he is on.

With my series 2 and series 3 TiVo’s I can transfer recordings to my computer, edit them if desired then record them to a DVD.

You can also allow TiVo to share pictures and music from your computer. It will play the music and slide shows on your TV.

I could go on and on about TiVo. There is the one downside and that is the monthly (you can pay yearly if you want) fee.

To learn all about TiVo check their web site here - https://www3.tivo.com

Check the TiVo user forum here - http://www.tivocommunity.com

The TiVo Community Store often has good bargains for TiVo’s or accessories. Check them for current pricing along with your local Best Buy - http://store.tivocommunity.com/merchant....

You need either a phone line or internet connection for TiVo to download software updates and program information.

I hope this helps you make the best decision.

    Norm
