Question:

I saw a bird yesterday and im not sure what it was

this bird was about the size of a sparrow but it was completely blue almost teal in color but more blue hue to it....never saw a bird like it, was not a parakeet or like that, just wondering what it was..i was in south eastern wisconsin

  1. There are three options: Eastern Bluebird, Indigo Bunting, or a remote possibility of a Mountain Bluebird. the most likely bird would be Indigo Bunting. Blue Jays are too big!


  2. Could have been a blue jay.

    Or it could have been a house bird that escaped.

  3. Most likely your bird is an indigo bunting, they are sparrow sized and the males can appear to be either a deep royal blue or teal in color, however in poor light, they look black. The females are mostly a brownish color.

    We don't have them in my area but I once visited a friend in

    Oregon and saw one in a tree that looked like that and I said (This is

    stupid) Look at that blue bird. What is it. My friend looks at

    me oddly and says It is a BLUEBIRD.

    I'm guessing it was the bunting, I live in SE WI, and have seen them a few times. They are almost irridescent in the sun, and very pretty--lucky you!
