From olden days itself, usage was in Brit English, But after the IT revolution, more American pronunciation came into the industry. Like skejule. Old people still say shedule. Now a days, the new generation do not know which is American pronunciation and Brit pronunciation, they are behind style. But still they use 'colour', favour etc.

  1. Well the British still use British English pronunciation and spellings. I have to admit that Skedule is becoming the preferred pronunciation over here too. I guess pronunciation is all about being understood by the largest possible number of people. Languages change and evolve constantly.

  2. "English" varies from place to place and from time to time.  Anglican education in India during the Victorian era led naturally to a British pronunciation by those who learned English then or from those who learned from their descendants, but Indian speakers of English also brought their own pronunciation and grammar, so that Indian English has its own distinct flavor [ flavour :)  ].  As a single instance, Indian usage emphasizes the use of 'am' as a modifying verb as in "I am feeling..."

The Indian accent may show its British ancestry, but so does American English.  Join the crowd (and welcome)!

  3. Indians follow the British education system; as a result, both spoken as well as written English is based on the British form too.

For a very long time, Indians followed this structure. It was only after the the IT field succeeded and the government opened its economy for the muti-nationals, that the american influence stated to show. Ironically, it showed in not only the language usage but also the culture.

More than the language, it is the cultural change that bothers me. We should try to adapt the finer points from other cultures but should never forget our own traditions.
