  1. Galaxies are in clusters.  Clusters are in superclusters.  These superclusters are not evenly spaced throughout the universe.  Instead, they seem to form a web shape of filaments.  The TV show was probably about this web shape.

  2. Are you talking about the galaxy?  Google "spiral galaxy" and you will see samples which look something like the way the Milky Way would from the outside.  Your @ sign is a pretty fair representation of a galaxy, actually.

Any attempt to graphically represent the universe is going to be misleading, if not outright incorrect.  The universe really can't be pictured as a whole.

  3. What you saw was a picture not of the universe, but of just a galaxy within it, specifically a spiral galaxy. There are other types of galaxies. It was not a picture of our galaxy, the Milky Way, because being within it ourselves, we don't yet have any way of traveling outside of it to get such a picture. Galaxies consist of many individual stars, many of which have associated planets, making them stellar systems. Our solar system is one of these. There are billions and billions of stars within an average galaxy, and the universe contains billions upon billions of galaxies.

  4. Our star is one of many stars in the Orion arm of the Milky Way Galaxy.

The Milky Way Galaxy is one of many galaxies in the Virgo Supercluster.

The Virgo Supercluster is one of many superclusters. Clusters and superclusters form bubble walls around voids of empty space. The bubbles or voids are arranged like a giant bubble bath. Our telescopes can look out thru about a hundred bubble widths to the edge of the visible universe. Beyond that, galaxies haven't existed long enough for their light to get here.

  5. well....... the universe is expanding in an infinite amount of space... so i don't think that it would have a shape. i think it would be round
